What better way to get kids excited about washing their hands than by using soap they made together with you?
In this playful, hands-on parent/child class, you’ll explore two colorful ways to make soap—each one as fun to create as it is to use. We’ll begin with a quick, kid-friendly look at the science of soap and why it does such a great job keeping our skin clean.
Then the making begins: you and your child will start by creating wet-felted soap, wrapping soft, dyed sheep’s wool around a bar of moisturizing body soap, and use water and plenty of enthusiastic scrubbing to felt it into a cozy, colorful “washcloth” layer. The finished bar lasts longer, has a gentle exfoliating texture, and won’t slip out of little hands.
From there, you’ll dive into a second project using a magical, moldable soap dough. It works like clay but air-dries into adorable mini scented (or unscented!) soaps, and together you’ll shape a bright little collection of soap “rocks” that make handwashing something to look forward to.
You’ll enjoy a creative bonding experience and leave with bags of handmade soap, plus recipes and supply lists to keep the fun going at home. All ingredients are non-toxic and kid-friendly.
